Trivetology
n: the Study of Trivets:
their History, Manufacture and Household Use

                           Welcome to my Website!

This website is dedicated to collectors of Trivets and other laundry related treasures. The majority of the collectibles I’ll share and discuss will be Antique (greater than 100 years old) or Vintage (pre-WWII).

I’ve been collecting trivets since the early 1980s. Living in Florida, the majority of trivets I came upon were reproduction designs from the 1950s onward. So it was an epiphany when in 1994 I received a copy of Kelly & Ellwood’s book Trivets & Stands. For the first time I was introduced to the wide variety of trivets and stands available to collect! The book not only provided an education in the history and manufacture of trivets in the United States, but a compass by which to begin my search for the more elusive designs.

In 2001 I discovered eBay, and at that point my collection really took off! Not only could I purchase interesting trivets from around the world, I was introduced to other Buyers and Sellers, many who were avid collectors themselves. Finally I was able to communicate with others who shared my hobby, and my learning curve shot skyward.

I went on to establish the eBay US Group “Cast Iron & Brass Trivet Collectors” in 2003. You’ll find a link to this eBay Group at the right, and you are cordially invited to Join Us!

My most recent adventure: In Summer 2008 I joined Worthpoint as a Worthologist, specializing in Trivets! I started a new Group there called Trivet & Stand Enthusiasts. I also contribute articles regularly to the Worthpoint Research Library. I truly believe that Worthpoint will become the premier destination for antiques and collectibles aficionados who appreciate a comprehensive website that can provide not only Education but an avenue for Buying, Selling and Socializing.  In Spring 2009 the Worthpoint website will undergo an upgrade that will create a more user-friendly, interactive site. Click on Worthpoint (at the right) to discover more!

My first book, The A-Z Guide to Collecting Trivets, was published by Collector Books in 2004. I am currently working on The Expanded A-Z Guide To Collecting Trivets for Collector Books, with publication anticipated in Spring 2010.  This second edition will be hardbound, again with full color photographs taken by my husband Ed. I believe you’ll be delighted with not only the new information that will be presented, but with Ed’s photos! I’m limited to around 800 images by the publisher, and already have more than enough trivets and related photos to use that entire allowance. So ... can a Book 3 be in my future?

NEWS FLASH! At their August 2008 Convention the Midwest Sad Iron Collectors Club changed their name to Pressing Iron and Trivet Collectors Of America. This more accurately reflects the composition of the group, many of whom collect trivets as well as irons ... and it better identifies the geographic demographics of the membership. Trivet collectors ... you are invited to join one of the premier collecting groups in the world! Click on the PITCA link (at the right) for more information.

The 2009 PITCA Convention will be August 7th and 8th in Cleveland, Ohio, preceded by a fabulous Pressing Iron Auction again handled by Simmons and Company Auctioneers. The 2009 Auction Catalog for the Sara and Wilbur Howell Collection is now available for viewing at their Website!

As Always, Best Wishes & Happy Collecting!
